{"id":14922,"date":"2025-03-13T15:55:29","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T22:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/news\/?p=14922"},"modified":"2025-03-13T15:59:04","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T22:59:04","slug":"professor-mwebi-earns-carnegie-fellowship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/news\/2025\/03\/13\/professor-mwebi-earns-carnegie-fellowship\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Earns Carnegie Fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nixon Mwebi, chemistry professor and department chair, was\u00a0 awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iie.org\/programs\/carnegie-african-diaspora-fellowship-program\/#:~:text=The%20Carnegie%20African%20Diaspora%20Fellowship,of%20New%20York%20(CCNY).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship<\/a> to develop lab spaces and curriculum in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>His project at Kisii University is among 43 new initiatives that pair African Diaspora scholars with institutions in Africa for collaborative research, graduate training, and mentorship in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Mwebi\u2019s work in Kenya this spring will enhance the role of environmental chemistry in addressing global challenges, including climate change, manufacturing, medicine, and agriculture. His engagement will not only enrich faculty and student learning but also promote international research partnerships and curriculum development.<\/p>\n<p>The fellowship, now in its eleventh year, aims to strengthen capacity at host institutions while fostering long-term academic collaborations between universities in Africa, the United States, and Canada. Funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in partnership with the Association of African Universities (AAU), the program has awarded
