When you call or email CAPS to make an appointment, you can expect the following:
- You will be asked to provide your name, student ID, and phone number.
- The administrative assistant will work with you to find a good time for your first 50 minute appointment.
- You will be asked if you wish to share the reason for making the appointment. Â This can help match you with a counselor who can assist you best.
- You will be asked to complete a Counseling Consent form via a link sent to you by email.
When the CAPS therapist contacts you for your first appointment, you can expect the following to occur:
- The therapist’s goal in the initial session is to learn more about your current concerns and your history. Â This is called an intake. Â The therapist will ask you a series of questions and you should answer to the extent that you feel comfortable. Â The more information you are willing to share, the better the counselor can understand your concerns and work with you to create a plan to address them.
- The session will wrap up and be done by 50 minutes after the hour. Â All sessions are 50 minutes long.
